Martha Stuwart on a Cafeteria Television

When I went to the dining hall yesterday morning for breakfast, I sat alone, as I usually do, but this time I watched Martha Stuwart on one of the TVs. It's amazing to me how blunt see is with her guests sometimes. Anyway, the breakfast was good, in case any of you were wondering.

Sufjan Stevens

Okay, so I've been listening to another album from ought 5 called "Come On Feel the Illinoise!" by Sufjan Stevens. I like it now that I've listened to it a bit. I think I might give it a place over "Guero" by Beck, but I'm not certain of this. All the same, it's a solid release by the Mr. Stevens, who like me, is a little bit of a dork. Considering the fact that the album bears 22 freaking tracks, I haven't completely listened to the whole thing, but so far "Chicago", "Concerning the UFO Sighting Near Highland, Illinois", and "Jacksonville" are probably my favorite tracks.

The Bends

I can't stress the fact that any radiohead album you buy you'll be pleased with (with the exception of Pablo Honey-their debut record). And here is The Bends. Radiohead's sophmore release is nothing less than brilliance in the form of wonderfully passionate rock. Thom Yorke tends to focus a lot of the lyrics on human frailty in this album, so there's a whole lot of tenderness as well as a sense bitterness and angst. I love The Bends. Every song is awesome and passionate, although some are more so than others. I don't have any favorite songs off of this masterpiece but I do tend to like "Fake Plastic Trees" and "Black Star" a lot (I'm not copying you, Nathan; we just have the same opinion here).

>_>

the autumns have three albums: THE ANGEL POOL, IN THE RUSSET GOLD OF THIS VAIN HOUR, and THE AUTUMNS
I've been thinking about each one pretty hardly. My favorite, hands down, is their self-titled album. I've seen it noted that each one of the autumn's albums seems to tell a particular story or have a particular theme. In THE AUTUMNS the main theme is the ocean. Almost every song has referrece to the sea and the very music itself sometimes reminds me of the beach boys. But the reason this one is my favorite is because I think it has the best songwriting of the three. It's hard to say that songs like "Hush, Plain Girls," "Slumberdoll," and "Wish Stars." aren't beautiful and exciting.

information

The short kid with the gangly legs says that he didn't like the swisher sweet he had toight. Forrest didn't like the taste because swishers are nasty cigars; they are the basest of the base. However, the sugar-coated end tasted nice.

In Other News:
1) I liked my sophmore year of high school the best. freshman and junior years had their moments while senior year just flat-out sucked.
2) I've been taking showers instead of baths, lately.
3) Saw the Brothers Grimm. thought it was okay but lacked some crucial character development. Plus, it was slightly too neurotic for my already neurotic mind to take.
4) I'm looking for to seeing the old lady who admits people into the dining hall. ...not really, but she is a nice old lady.
5) There's still nasty swisher sweet in my mouth and I wish it would go away, be gone, get lost.
6) We'll climb the Astro Crag tommorow just like we dreamed of doing when we were in elementary school.

...

I think out of all the albums radiohead has come out with, Kid A is probably my personal favorite.

Missing Kid on a Carton of Milk

Nathan, what happened to you? Where have you been? We've all been wondering and worrying about you. We've come to think that you've dropped off the face of the earth. And I've called your cell phone but you never picked up, so I started leaving pointless messages. I hope you get a decent laugh out of them. I'm free the 7th to let you know, so we can hang out on that day; that is, if you read this post before then.

La Marimba

To the two or three people who read this blog, Happy New Year. Let me give you a valuable piece of new year's advice.

ANYBODY CAN PLAY THE GUITAR

don't tell yourself you can't do it just because "your fingers won't bend in that position" because mine didn't do that at first either. And don't worry about making the guitar the most played instrument by amateurs, because if observation shows me right, it already is. Guitars are fun and cool, but I've always felt that pianos were just plan beautiful. It's sort of a difficult task to hit this off with the guitar. It can be, and has been done, though.

The Drum Poem

At Paige's request, I have decided to post a poem I wrote this morning when I was bored and just started thinking about drums.

drums are beaten
drums are thumped
to lure us in
to give us a rhythm
that we can move to

...::::...

I'm painting pictures and sculpting figures,
just to forget her.
But she won't leave my focus alone
my frail heart is turned blue [gasping for air]

I'm etching glass and molding brass,
but all these things
they don't let me forget her.
God help me.
I'm being eaten alive
from the inside out
God save me
from the toxin that seeps in these wounds.

I wish you would fill me
and drain me of these accursed thoughts.
I wish I could come to you
and not be distracted.
But the testosterone seems to be my input panel
and the buttons are being pushed with every thought of her.
and I'm a mess
you don't love me any less
but please let me fold up
and close my eyes.

"PTCL" - The Placid Hurricane

doo doo dee dum

Let's see. albums of 2005 that I listened to.
"takk..." - Sigur Ros
"speak for yourself" - Imogen Heap
"guero" - Beck
"self-titled"- Lifehouse

I suppose I should place them in order of how much I liked them. but there wouldn't be much of a change, except Immi might take first and sigur ros second. I'm not certain if I would do this, though.
I know that death cab for cutie came out with "plans" and the bravery came out with their debut album and spoon came out with another album, but I didn't listen to any of these, which I probably should have.

The lifehouse album is okay, but I think that the most solid album they've released is their first one, "no name face." After that, things just started to get boring with them. Oh well, drowning in davy jones' locker is often what happens to many bands that start out with promise. My favorite tracks on this album are "blind," "into the sun," and "walking alone."

"Guero" is just plain fun and the music is pretty solid too, considering its style is more "vato rap" at times than the normal crazy sound beck is known for. My favorite line is on "Que Onda Guero" when Beck says, "Andale, Joto, your popsicle's melting." My favorite tracks are "que onda guero," "missing," "earthquake weather," and "broken drum."

Imogen Heap's voice was as beautiful as ever in "speak for yourself." I'd marry her but she'd probably only want me for my hot body. And I'm of the conviction that you shouldn't marry for the sole reason of sex. Sorry Immi, if you're reading this, it just wouldn't work out between us. You'd be my "suga-mama," and we can't have that. Favorite tracks are "goodnight and go," "have you got it in you?," "hide and seek," "the walk," "just for now," and "the moment I said." Every song on this work is great.

Then there's is "takk..." I really like this album, but I don't think it's nearly as good as their second album "agætis byrjun." Still, it's probably a little easier for the common person to get into than "( )." My favorite tracks are "glosoli, "sæglopur," "gong," "andvari," and "svo hljott."

Happy New Year's Day to you two or three slackers who actually read my blog.

: :::: :...

I see the wonder setting in
over where I am going
and where I've been
and by the way
when I kneel to pray
it never seems you're there
and I'll admit that I do not try
when it's easier to sit down and cry
I'm so full of doubt
want to let it out
let it out all over you

on my circle of error
I go round and round
on my circle of error
I go round and round again

I'm running things into the ground
all the truth I'm seeking has not been found
and I am weak
all the words I speak
bring no passion anymore
and I will try for happiness
in the midst of all this emptiness
all I want is you
if I only knew
how to get up off this floor

"Circle of Error" - sixpence none the richer

This Beautiful Mess

I just bought this cd at hastings today for only $6.48. It was used but the condition is practically new. While I listen to it at the moment, I find that I'm digging it pretty deep. The bass player kicks some serious backside and the music itself is just plain awesome. It's not as well edited as Divine Discontent, but that isn't always the measure of a good album. good stuff.

Perplexity

I firmly believe in the sovereignty of God. I know that He has my entire life mapped out for me and is control (not that I'm a fatalist; man is still responsible for his actions). The thing that kills me, though, is my whole view of my future. I hardly give it any thought. I don't know what I want to do with my life. I feel disoriented.

Merry Xmas

Well, considering that there are probably only two or three people who actually read my blog, I don't know whether they would be upset if I didn't post a christmas message to them. However, it is a pretty important day today, so merry Christmas to the people who read this blog. You are the few, the proud.

I don't know whether this verse has much relevance to the day, but it's comforting. So, I going to post is anyway.

2 types

There are two types of people: Those who admit to having played Super Mario and those who are liars. Think about it.

Emo

I'm sitting here listening to Sunny Day Real Estate, which is really almost pushing me to start my own band styled after the mid to late 90s emo. The only problem is that most of the people I know here aren't really into emo; most don't even know what it is. So how can you have an emo band when most of your friends who play instruments don't even know what emo is? I could clone myself, but that would cost too much and there are certain moral implications involved. Getting slightly off the subject, the thing that amazes me the most is that most people don't know what emo is, even though "emo" is such a cool word.

A Coversation Between Friends

Forrest: Does your brain make sounds?
Josh: What kind of sounds?
Forrest: Well, does it growl when it gets hungry for knowledge? You know, that kind of stuff.
Josh: Nope
Forrest: Why is that?

Josh never did answer Forrest; it's quite sad really.

Sundry Goods

I have a can of ovaltine that I've not used at all yet; I haven't even peeled the alluminum seal off the top yet. So you may be wondering why I haven't used it during the whole 2 and a half months I've been here. This is why: no milk combined with the lack of effort to get some. I've been contemplating whether or not I should sneak my can of ovaltine into the dining hall and just use some from there. This is probably what I'll do, and I'm confident that no person who works in the dining hall reads this blog. It's such a good scheme.

Delirious

I don't know how many people think about Delirious anymore, but I have almost totally forgotten about them. I'm listening to the Cutting Edge right at this moment, and I'm amazed how I could forget such good music. The Cutting Edge is one of the best examples of passionate and stellar modern praise albums I can think of that still stands the test of time. At times it seems a little hokey ("The Happy Song"), but at other times, it's just plain beautiful because of its contriteness. I don't think people know anything about Delirious' older music, so if this is your first time to hear about the Cutting Edge, I highly recommend it.

On Cigars and Capri Sun

I smoked my first cigar last night. My friend Adam and I went to Heroes and Legacies the other evening to check out the many different types of cigars. I told him that I wanted a "beginner's" stogie, so he recommend a vanilla Sweet Daddy to me. They each cost 3 dollars; I duly purchased one.

I must admit, the taste the cigar left on my lips was very nice, but the smoke that went into my mouth didn't taste that great. Plus, it still slightly lingers in there to this very morning.

What Have We Here?

I watched Serenity on yesterday's evening. I thought it had a good story and some interesting characters, but I still don't think that it should ever be compared to Star Wars. If you watch Serenity, you'll most likely notice that it is lacking in character and is also somewhat hokey in regards to the musical selections they chose. However, hokey isn't always bad. For example, Pirates of the Caribbean is hokey, but it's still a cool movie.

iPods and fight squads

No, the name "emptycdwallet" has nothing to do with iPods. My blog has been around since August 2003, well before the iPod rush. To be honest, I "emptycdwallet" to be the title of my blog because it is ambiguous. You have to ask yourself, "What does that mean?" and if you've done just that, then I have succeeded.

Forrestonian Update

For those of you who are actually concerned with what is going on in my life, here it is. I've been going to class, which consists of college algebra, U.S. history, biology of animals, music ap., and freshmen seminar. I've been getting involved with a student organization called Campus Crusade for Christ. Monday nights we have bible studies. Sometimes we eat sweets. Sometimes we don't.

You readers of my blog are near and dear to my heart.

Tacoes, yeah I like 'em. I also like Hoppipolla by Sigur Ros. I like hot tea; perhaps I'll make some tomorrow morning... only if it's cold enough. Why is hot tea always connected to homosexuality when men drink it. I think that's a total smack in the face to us straight guys who consume it.

Nerd Rocker! No No No No No

How would you feel if you were told that you resemble a nerd rocker - the lead singer from Weezer, for example. You may appreciate the remark, but I hate it. Nerd rockers are so nerdy, and if I have to be part of their group, I'd rather throw everything I know about the guitar down the drain. I don't want to be stereotyped. I want to be known as "Forrest, the guy who plays the guitar," not "Forrest, the nerd rocker." Please understand where I'm coming from.

Wednesday, October 05, 2005

So far I've heard about four albums from 2005. Perhaps I've heard more, but I don't think so. The reason there is so few is because I'm very picky when it comes to music. Here are the four I've heard.

1) Speak for Yourself - Imogen Heap
2) Takk... - Sigur Ros
3) Lifehouse - Lifehouse
4) Guero - Beck

And I think I like 'em in that order, which is wierd because Sigur Ros is real good. Immi is very good, too, though. The reason Beck is falling after Lifehouse is because I haven't listen to Guero all of the way. I still need to.

While I could write a somewhat sizeable post, I've opted to take the route of playing video games---sonic the hedgehog, in particular. Incidently, I've been messing around with this hypothesis---throwing it around and hitting it with a bat, if you will---and have come to the conclusion that video games sharpen the concentration of one's mind. Try for yourself; see if I'm wrong. :p

Something of Interest

If you go to my july 2005 archives, you'll notice that there is a post to a quiz I made a while back. I thought it would have gone defunct by now, but I guess it hasn't. The interesting thing is this: a fellow by the name of Taylor Tucker took my quiz probably not even a day ago and made a fifty. There are 2 things about this. 1) I don't even know Taylor that well and he got the highest grade on my quiz. 2) Is Taylor the kid I knew from Southern oaks youth group?
Taylor, if that's you, please let me know. I'm not mad that you took my quiz; I'm just curious how you found it and such. Also, kudos for beating the crap out of my "friends" in regards to my quiz.

To the Idiots Who Spam in Comment Boxes,

Don't even think about doing it on my blog, I will delete your stupid comment as soon I see what you've done. Just don't even think about spamming on my blog.
Okay, the funniest thing I've seen at college so far.

I was on my way to a watch a violin recital when a truck full of beer-guzzling freshmen yelled at me meet, "Don't go to class; drink beer!" If you think about this a little, it's actually quite funny. It's almost as if they were saying, "Don't vote ____, vote ____." Hopefully, though, I'll see something more exciting. I expected to see freshmen doing stupid things when I came here, and they haven't been delivering. Sure, they do stupid stuff, but it's not anything that stands outside the paine of sex and alcohol. I truly am disappointed.

The post before this one is a testament to the fact that I can't figure out how to make a working link to the iTunes store.

1) I like the food at the Hulen/Clement dining hall sometimes. At other times, it's not so hot.
2) Week four of classes is coming up and with that comes the first tests. I'm looking forward to that. Bah!
3) Sigur Ros came out with their new album Takk... and I still haven't purchased it yet.

I'm sitting here at my desk reading my novel for history class. The window is slightly opened and there is a gentle combination of rain and breeze. It's very peaceful----tranquil, if you will. It's not dark outside, though.

Now the rain has stopped, but I can still hear the sound of cars in the background. It's still very peaceful.

Friday, September 02, 2005

You know what I'm fascinated with? It's the fact that I always find ants crawling in my keyboard. I even wonder if I would find an ant colony in my keyboard if I were to take it apart. I think the ants even sleep in my bed. Sometimes I'll find one or two creeping around on my bed. I'm not too worried, though; these ants are just the sugar kind, and if I really wanted to, I could eat them. Y'know, show them who's boss. For now, however, I just brush them off my desk, and if I can manage, pull them out of my keys with a piece of sturdy paper.

Wednesday, August 31, 2005

I refuse to give into the constant constrictions that try to squeez the life out of me.

This is in reference to my classes and the work involved with them, and the irony about my statement is that my will-power died some time ago. It's always been my heart-felt belief that I'm floating sustained in the love and care of my God----relaxed, limp, at peace, not deadened.

Ugh, ugh, ugh!!! I'm so tired yet I'm listening to the Beautiful Sunny Day Real Estate song "Tearing in My Heart." Bad habits die hard.

Tuesday, August 23, 2005

To anyone who reads my blog and does not own the self-titled album of the Autumns, go and buy it---simply rocks. I couldn't find the artwork on the internet, but the picture above is somewhat similar to what the real thing looks like. If you have iTunes, that's a great way to listen to some high quality clips of it. If you have the windows counterpart to iTunes, I pity you. You can't even find the Arcade Fire on that thing. I pretty much agree with Nathan about witch songs are the best, considering the fact that they're all so good. My favorite song is "Edmond & Edward/Wish Stars." This song is actually two songs, but they just work real well together. The track changes and if you weren't aware, you couldn't tell that it did. Cool, cool stuff.
I played putt putt yesterday as a welcoming event for freshman. Everything there was free, save refreshments. Do they think that they can buy us out with their cheap events and free rounds of putt putt? ...Well, they can......and they did. Putt putt is so rad it's not even funny, but it is fun. Good free fun---the best kind of fun.

This boy here likes chocolate.

Important News
1. Going on walks is fun, but being attacked by rabid junior highers while taking one is not.
2. This is the last full day I'll be at home before I leave for college. In honor of this, the boys plus Merissa will be having a going-away party for me at CiCi's.
3. I love Jesus immensely much.
4. After two years since the first time I saw her, Keira Knightley is still very attractive to my eyes.
5. Radiohead still rocks.
6. I laugh when I think of chubby people laughing.
7. I'll be staying in Gates hall---a hall heavily laden with the arts.
8. I'm going to miss 90% of the people I know in Kerrville and the surrounding area.
9. Nathan's not going to be able to give me Smash Brothers Melee and Star Fox adventures back on Sunday, but that's okay. I wasn't gonna take 'em to college anyway.
10. It's still my ideological extreme to make popularity a thing of the past.

Normally, I don't really have a strong affinity for chorizo, but these breakfast tacos were different. The only problem was that my friend and I had to wait for twenty minutes to get our damn delicious breakfast tacos, but in the end, it was worth the wait. mmm

I like it when you're cool like that.
It's been raining in Kerrville a lot lately. When I say lately, I am referring to the month of July. For the record, the rainy month of summer for 2005 was July. This differs from the rainy month of the summer of 2002, which happened to be June. June, sweet June. Personally, I think that June is a much better month for the rain. It's not as hot as July is and also meshes better with the rain than July. You see, when it rains in July, the temperature drops 10 to 20 degrees. However, once the rain is gone the temperature rises back to painful highs, not to mention the air is rife with that stupid thing we know as humidity (not bad in small quantities, though).

Mowing the lawn is a chore I don't think I will ever get used to or enjoy. Whenever the time to do yard work rolls around, I usually shudder where I stand, work up the strength to face the pain, and then do the work assigned to me. In the midst of this three-step progression, I know that I will inevitably have an allergic breakdown before the yard work is all over.

Here's to hysterical allergic breakdowns. Lift your chalices!

I made a Quiz for you! Take my Quiz! and then Check out the Scoreboard!
I've been reading the Proverbs lately. If I had to rate it based on a 5 star rating system, I would give it the full 5. Seeing that I am a Christian, this may seem a little biased, and perhaps it is. However, I find this book to be thought-provoking and beautifully written. Today I read two chapters straight, not only fascinated with the content of the book, but with its poetry also.

I think Mario is a player. Let's face it; we've known him since the 1980s and he's still not married.

Just a reminder: the school picnic will be held on Wednesday and only cool people are allowed. If you don't fit into the strict definition of cool, you can not come.

Okay, so here's my top five favorite (favourite if your from England) cereals:
5.Fruity Pebbles
4.Kix
3.Golden Grahams
2.Cinnamon Toast Crunch
1.Cap'n Crunch

Interesting how my two favorite cereals end in crunch, is it not?

I would like to take some time to talk about the sky. Little, small children sometimes ask their parents why the sky is blue, and their parents usually say either "God just made it that way" or "it just is." While I don't disagree with these answers, I would answer the little, small child differently. The kid would say, "Mr. Forrest, why is the sky blue?" Then I would say, "The sky is blue because of an action called scattering, Jimmy. Of the colors on the visible spectrum, blue has the shortest wavelength next only to violet. Particles in the sky absorb the blue light and then reemit it in all directions. The other colors, except violet, pass over the particles. Oh yeah, and God made it that way." Then Jimmy would say, "I have to go, because Mom is making sausage for dinner." And I would say, "I have to go, because I don't really like sausage."

I think sheep are very funny animals to watch. I don't know why, but when I watch sheep on tv, I am suddenly put in a good mood. Duckbilled platapuses are like that too. And I also enjoy watching taboo on either the discovery channel or national geografic channel. I'm can't remember which channel I saw it on but it was interesting nonetheless! The episode I saw was about Korean people eating live octopus and high-society New York Adventurers eating exotic bugs and animals at one of their snooty parties. It was great.

What would life be like if we didn't have the various flavors of potato chips? I try not to dwell on that because it's to heavy of a thought for me.
Everybody has hair.
Some people have blonde hair.
Some people have grey hair.
I have brown hair.
I like chocolate pudding.
Some people have red hair,
that is really orange.
Some japanese cartoon characters have blue hair.
Some people have trap hairs,
and get lost in them.

Have you ever bought a cd that you listened to every day for a period of at least 1-2 months? I'm refering to listening to it only once a day though. Here is my list of such cds that I have that I can think of.

Shimmer- Luna Halo
Okay Computer- Radiohead
No Name Face- Lifehouse
Time- Third Day

These kind of obsession albums are rare and are usually a result( at least in my opinion) of being the first purchased album of that artist. Someday I plan to have All Star United's first album on the list, but that remains to be seen. Oh yeah, that list is in no particular order by the way.

I like the month of March, yet ironically, it is already the 25th. Where does time go? It seems like just yesterday I was a freshman in high school, taking music theory lessons from Nathan, and being cool. In music lessons, Nathan was always preaching to me anout how awesome Radiohead was. Yup, he sure likes Radiohead. Radiohead and Tori Amos. Radiohead, Tori Amos, and Sigur-ros. Radiohead, Tori Amos, Sigur-ros, and the Newsboys. Sorry Nathan, I couldn't resist making a wise crack like that.

Adios people who read my blog. Probably 2 people
Feel fortunate if you think my guitar likes you.

6. Friday- Gloryday. Cause it's the official opening of the weekend. I love fridays.

My spring break is almost over. It's been a typical spring break for me again. I just stayed at home and slack off, however, I did go to Big Bend for the first third of the week. I enjoyed last year spring break better though; I got to Houston and hang out with my cuz. I'm amazed that this week's already almost over. That's a good thing though because I need to get back to school so That I can stop my mind from turning into mush.

I also watched power rangers this morning. From doing this I drew two conclusions: Power rangers aren't as cool as I thought they were when I was in the 2nd grade. and The power rangers are huge fans of exremely cheap plastic. Oh yeah, I saw two movies this past week. They were School of Rock and Open Range. I liked Open Range but I didn't really care for School of Rock. Maybe I've just been thincking to much about music lately and that movie only added to the fact that I getting tired of always doing that.

On certain days of the week in the Short house we have a routine dinner for that day. On Sunday we go to Taco Bell. On Monday we go to Little Caesars. Tuesday is random; I am very happy about that. On Wednesday we go to Whataburger and get four hamburgers for the price of two. Thursday is also random as to what we consume. Friday, my favorite day of the week, is pizza from little sneezers again. And last, there's Saturday in which the meal is random again. As you can see, 4/7 of our dinners are routine and predictable wheras 3/7 are not.

I luv the quizno's sponge monkey's! "We luve their subs, cause they are good to us!"

I miss my sideburns. They were so cool n' groovy. Little kids looked up to me, but now I'm but a mere shell of what I use to be. When I have the chance I'll grow them back.

Oh yeah, Lifehouse is a good rock band. I don't want any lip from you people who don't like them because I do like them. Besides, this is my blog.

This week has been a great one so far. I've already finished all my work for the third quarter, so the only thing I've been working in is Social Studies. Next week is convention though, but I'm not saying that it's usually a stressful week. We just have to dress nice and eat food which origins are unknown. But when it all boils down it's actually quite enjoyable; that's because my friends and I get to just hang out most of the time.

Nathan, I listened to Turn on the Bright Lights by Interpol. It's pretty groovy.....in a new wave kind of way.
